Boko Haram: Soldiers Intercept 51 Youth Traveling Under The Cover Of Night From Borno To Abuja

ngr-troopsafpThe Nigerian military on Thursday said it had intercepted about 51 youth traveling from Maiduguri, Borno State, to Abuja, the nation’s capital.

This was disclosed via an unsigned statement on its website.

According to the statement, the convoy was intercepted around 3 a.m. along Babale, Plateau State on Wednesday.

The youth, travelling in three 18-seater transit buses, were led by a woman, it said.

It added that officers of the Special Task Force were currently trying to unravel the motive of the mass movement of the youth in light of the current security challenges and their suspicious claims.

The statement disclosed that during interrogation, the youth claimed they were being conveyed to Abuja on the orders of a Borno State Government official to meet their relatives for assistance in an economic empowerment programme. It also said the youth had made contradictory statements regarding sponsorship of their mission to the nation’s capital.

The military, however, added that the said official was yet to respond to series of efforts to verify the claims, even as the issue was being investigated to ascertain the genuine mission of the youth.
