World Champions Arrive to a Hero’s Welcome In Berlin

Germany World Cup stars finally arrived in Berlin, after a few-hour delay, to a sea of fans gathered in high expectation of the start of the victory parade.

The plane carrying the victorious ‘Die Nationalmannschaft’ squad touched down at the capital’s Tegel airport at 09:08 (Nigerian time).

Hundreds of thousands of jubilant fans awaited- a handful of whom lined the team’s open-top bus route- drenched under the scorching sun to give coach Joachim Low and his players heroes’ welcome, after clinching their historic fourth title.

A giant party was held at the Bradenburg Gate- the giant neoclassical triumphal arch located in the western part of Berlin, where captain Philip Lahm and his team-mates thronged on to a giant stage in batches before displaying the trophy.

Coach Low was among the first batch of entrees in the giant stage, alongside his technical staff.

The 54-year-old Schonau-born former West Germany attacking midfielder told the celebrating fans that Germany’s triumph is victory for all the country.

“We are all world champions,” Low said. “Of course we are all overjoyed now to be with the fans.”

Mario Gotze, who was among the second group of players onto the stage at the Bradenburg Gate, scored a 113th minute goal against Argentina at the Maracana, as Germany became the first European nation to clinch the World Cup on South American soil on Sunday.

The Germans celebrate their triumph in the Amazons of Brazil, happily posing for pictures and dancing the conga on stage.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who won the Golden Gloves of the tournament then tried his best Superman impression, while the Berlin carnival continued.

  1. Success has many parents and relations, natural, foster, fake and pretenders. We also took part in that competition but are best remembered for bickering, fighting and embezzlement of the huge funds provided by the Nigerian government which has led to FIFA blackmail of Nigeria. One gets the impression that FIFA itself is a citadel of corruption. Birds of the same feather…….
