Why Pastor Kumuyi Banned iPad & Android Devices In Deeper Life Church

The founder and the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, has revealed why iOS (iPads, iPhones) and Android devices were banned in his Church some weeks ago.

A lot of criticisms had trailed the decision of the pastor to prohibit the use of smartphones in his Church.

However, according to Encomium Weekly, the ban was placed by Pastor Kumuyi because the members of the Church were pretending to read their Bibles, but instead they were surfing the web and not paying attention to the sermon.

The headquarters of Deeper Life Bible Church is situated at KM 42 on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Nigeria.

Pastor Kumuyi is the author of several books. In the early 1970s Kumuyi worked as an education lecturer at the University of Lagos.

He was born into a Christian family in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State, Nigeria.

William Kumuyi completed his secondary school education in 1961, and in 1962 started teaching mathematics at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun-State, from where he proceeded to the University of Ibadan. In 1967 he graduated with a first-class honours degree in mathematics. He became a born-again Christian in April 1964.

Kumuyi remarried in October 2010 in London, about 18 months after the death of his first wife.

In April 2013, Kumuyi was named as one of the “500 most powerful people on the planet” and Deeper Christian Life Ministry named as “the World’s largest Megachurch” by Foreign Policy magazine.

  1. I wish they will do it in all the denominations of churches. The man of God is right. I have experience it many a times. By the time your phone is on during church service, you are bound to be distracted and people around you too. Even if you pretend to read your bible, some how if message did not enter call may come in. Is very tempting so carry your bible not ur phone to Church

  2. I think this is serving God by coerce. Christianity is not a religion. It is understanding who you worship and serving him with reverence. Anyone who uses his iphone or ipad during church service or sermon for other things instead of making scripture references and taking notes, he/she does that at his/her peril. That means, such a person does not know the reason he goes to church. Dogmas have turned christianity into a practice of hypocrisy: holy in church and unholy elsewhere. This ought not to be so. Be a christian by a conviction that you are following a right course. Otherwise, it is just a show.

  3. Holiness in fear of God or holiness in fear of man, pls let us not hypocritical on certain matters. God knows the heart so if I bring a smart phone to record all bible lessons in church, does that make me a sinner?
Hmmm… God have mercy on us because most people pretend to be holy in the churches but very arrogant and notorious outside.
Let us live clean with a pure heart and a loving nature of Jesus Christ.
