United’s Carrick Injured, Out for a Least “Ten Weeks”

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick will be out for the start of the new season after picking up an injury in training, says manager Louis van Gaal.

The England international suffered a serious ankle injury in training this week and will miss the club’s tour of the USA.

“Carrick had a surgery on his left ankle ligaments on Thursday morning and will be out for 10-12 weeks,” the Old Trafford club said in a statement.

“He is injured, a big blow because he is an experienced player,” added the Dutch boss, 62.

United will embark on a tour of the USA sponsored by AON this weekend.

They will face La Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup on July 23 before playing AS Roma and Inter Milan, both in the International Championship Cup on July 26 and 29 respectively.

The “Red Devils’ play their final ICC preliminary game against European champions Real Madrid on August 2.

“Well I’ve had better days….very frustrating but my race to get fit has started,” Carrick tweeted.

Van Gaal’s side open their Premier League campaign against Swansea on August 16. Carrick is expected to miss league matches against Sunderland, Burnley, Queens Park Rangers and Leicester City.

Should his recovery go according plan, he could return for the clash with West Ham on Saturday, September 27.
