Also rescued were three babies aged 2, while four social workers and four young men were arrested at the premises.

Parading the rescued girls and some of the workers in the baby factory, Abia state commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Andy Dateer, said the raid was carried out following a tip-off, Punch reports.

He explained that young women with unwanted pregnancies were kept in the home by the operators who sell off the babies once they are delivered.

According to him, the owner of the baby factory, who is still at large, also made arrangement with some men who sleep with girls and get them pregnant. When the babies are delivered, the girls are paid peanuts.

He added that one of the pregnant women had been rushed to the hospital following her critical health condition, while saying that the Command in partnership with the relevant authorities, will see to it that the girls are re-united with their families for proper care.

Speaking with journalists, some of the girls, who said they hailed from neighboring states, blamed their actions on Satan, poverty and lack of parental care. The victims also lamented that they had not been fed for the last two days.

The war against child trafficking is one that the government and security agents have continued to fight. Some days back, three pregnant women and a 36-year-old man suspected to be involved in a baby factory operation were paraded by the Rivers state police command.
