The Osun State Police Command have denied reports that a man, identified as Rasaki Adebayo, was found with explosives at the Awo Hall of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Adebayo was reportedly apprehended by some students of the university and handed over to the police on Wednesday, July 9.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Folashade Odoro, affirmed the development but denied reports in a section of the media that the suspect was caught with explosive substances.

“It is true a man was arrested but he was found with a gallon of kerosene- not petrol mixed with chemical as reported – and stove which he says he wants to use and cook. No IED was found on him”, Mrs. Odoro, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told the online newspaper in a telephone chat.

The police spokesperson said Mr. Adebayo was still in custody but could not say when he would be released.

It would be recalled that an explosion was recorded in Ile-Ife, which residents first feared was a bomb, but police later confirmed to be caused by fireworks.
