Free Agent Drogba Mulls Chelsea Return

Didier Drogba is on the verge of returning to Chelsea, two years after scoring a memorable winning penalty in the Champions League final.

The ‘Blues’ legend, now a free agent after leaving Turkish outfit Galatasaray, is considering a one-year deal to return to the club he left in 2012.

Representatives of the Ivory Coast international says the 36-year-old has, though not finalised his decision yet but has Chelsea among his options.

Talks are ongoing and Drogba is expected to decide on a possible return this week.

Having joined Chelsea from Olympique des Marseille for £24m in July 2004, Drogba went on to win three Premier League titles, Four FA Cups, two League Cups and a Champions League- scoring the championship-winning penalty with his last kick as Chelsea claimed its first European Cup in the 2012 Munich final against home favourites Bayern Munich.

After making his debut against Manchester United in August 2004, he went on to amass 342 appearances scoring 157 goals in his first spell.

His first return to Stamford Bridge- in the opponents’ half- ended in disappointment when Chelsea beat his previous club Galatasaray in the second round of last season’s Champions League.

Before the second leg of that tie, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hailed the former African Player of the Year, saying he is ” still one of the best strikers in the World.”

Reports also suggests he could assume a player/coach role on his return.
