Fayemi Should Stop Blaming ‘Stomach Infrastructure’ For His Defeat – Bamidele

Published

Opeyemi-Bamidele-and-Governor-Kayode-FayemiThe Labour Party candidate in the Ekiti State governorship election, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has cautioned the outgoing Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to stop blaming his defeat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on his refusal to distribute money and bags of rice to the electorate.

According to him, “stomach infrastructure” theory advanced by the governor’s camp can send a wrong signal about Ekiti people to the outside world.

Bamidele, in a statement by his Media Aide, Ahmed Salami, in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, said the theory was unfounded as it did not influence the choice of the electorate, which voted against Fayemi.

The lawmaker, who came a distant third in the election, recalled that before going to the polls, Fayemi distributed over 200 buses among different interest groups while his wife, Erelu Bisi, distributed buses, sewing machines and several other equipment to market women.

He, rather, attributed the incumbent governor’s defeat to Fayose to some self-serving intellectuals and politicians, who misled Fayemi.

Bamidele, who is Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, added that the poll remained the best conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission in recent time, although not absolutely devoid of hitches.

Thank you my dear Honourable. What stomach infrastructure is Fayemi talking about? Is this not a tale of the pot calling the kettle black. Did Fayemi not distribute rice & money before & during the guber poll? People merely collected these items & voted for the candidate of their choice. If Fayose is accused of distributing rice in 5kg bags, Fayemi distributed his own in 20kg bags, while the news of the arrest of many of their party leaders, for distributing money ranging from #5-10,000 per voter as inducement on the election day rented the airesvr. People collected the bribes & still voted for the candidate of their choice: Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose. What was it that Fayemi & his wife did not distribute weeks or days before the election to decieve voters? Was it vests & caps of various colours & shapes, & which despite thier high quality & beauty, people had to be begged & induced with money ranging from #1000-2000, to collect & wear them. Fayemi’s wife went round markets doling out money, buses & materials. The wife would buy goods of #10 worth from the iyalojas & pay #10,000. Was that not an open inducement? Was that how she was buying from the markets before the campaign period? So, who is deceiving who?

“There have been challenges along the line – the inclement national financial weather, the COVID-19 pandemic and others not so significant. But you have weathered the storm admirably and steadied the ship of state.

“The challenges will no doubt present a new format as you step into the third year. These are heightened political participation, pressure to deliver more dividends of democracy and increased demands from the political system. I have no doubt that you will cope nicely.

“Please continue to make the welfare of the people your biggest concern. They are the reason for the state. Without them there will be no government or any political office to occupy.

“Once again, congratulations, as I wish you a resounding success in office and every aspect of life.

“My kind regards to the good wife, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola and the entire cabinet of the State of Osun.”
