In what apparently is good news for polytechnic students across the country and a breakthrough for the newly appointed Minister of Education and former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has suspended its 10-month-old strike.

According to a report by PREMIUM TIMES, the suspension of the prolonged strike was confirmed by ASUP National Publicity Secretary, Clement Chirman.

The strike, which started in October 2013, was suspended on Saturday morning at the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the union held in Abuja.

Chirman said all striking lecturers have been directed to resume work on Tuesday.

Recall that upon his swearing in on Wednesday, the Minister of Education made his first official assignment on Thursday, a ‘fruitful’ meeting with top ASUP officials.

  1. Well Congratulation to all the Polythecnic for their Ressumption. But what about the Colleges?. I mean COERSU! Is there notthin for them. Cause thev been on 6 -Month strike now. What’s the wa foward to this on ground?

  2. There can never be an equality between HND and B.Sc because the curriculum, mode of instruction, mode of entry,
during of the courses, cut off marks in UTME are also not the same so how can they be equalised? If they really want to make it equal they should change the curriculum so as to be awarded with B.Tech, otherwise Industries and organisations will never accept that.

  3. Are you a uni student,@Yak? What do you know about polytechnic? Are you ignorant abt the commitee set up sofar and it recent development, acknowladgement and affirmation that poly deserve a degree award institute, or you are looking at the competiting aspect? It will no longer be called poly for the HND holders, bt rather a UNI OF TECH. Why dont you gain acess to it so as to feel the presure. Well they (Uni) myt say that is imposible to award degree to HND holders, bt anything good, fair and logical is posible. And that is our (HND) stand. In a blink of an eye, the discrimination btwn uni and poly will be desolve. KD COe will next year begin awarding degree, so likewise will it be equivalent wt the HND holder. Its time 9ja wakes up 4rm it slumber, and stick to what is right, just and fair. Welcome all uni to the real world.
