The Nigerian Army has denied the involvement of soldiers in the mayhem unleashed on BRT buses in the Obanikoro area of Lagos State. Instead, it blamed street urchins for taking advantage of the accident involving a soldier, who was allegedly knocked down by a BRT bus.

The army authorities, in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Abraham Ochagwuba, claimed that a BRT bus knocked down and killed a soldier – an army corporal – on Friday morning around Obanikoro.

The bus driver reportedly took the soldier’s body into the bus and attempted to drive away with it, but fled when other soldiers, who had witnessed the incident arrived at the scene.

Ochagwuba said the soldiers then secured the vehicle and towed it away.

According to him, “area boys then took advantage of the incident and started attacking buses”.

This is despite photos taken by eye-witnesses, which show a female soldier participating in the vandalism of BRT buses.

The army authorities further explained that the burnt BRT buses were far from the scene of the incident, while the bus that killed the soldier was neither attacked nor vandalized.

  1. Nigerian Army is more of an advantage seeking firm for unworthy acts. This is why Lt. Col. Abraham must only speak of what he is sure of as most soldiers are not worth being in our defensive costumes. The force is made of most less privilege of the Nigerian society.
