His previous deal was due to terminate in the summer of 2015, but will now remain with coach Louis van Gaal revolution until June 2018.

“I’m so happy to have signed a new deal and am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal. There is great team spirit within the club and we are all determined to get back to winning ways,” he added.

The winger, who joined United from Wigan in 2009, won the 20-time champions’ fans’ and players’ player of the year accolade in the 2011/12 season, when the ‘Red Devils’ lost the English championship- on goal difference- to neighbours Manchester City.

After reverting to his previous shirt number 25 last season, Valencia endured a difficult campaign under the ousted manager David Moyes, scoring a total of four goals in 43 appearances- including the opener in the 5-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League group stage.

Valencia has scored 8 times in 72 appearances for Ecuador. The Latin Americans face France on Wednesday for a shot at the knock-out stage of the World Cup.
