Academic and non-academic activities at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) were paralysed for the second day in a row due to students’ protests against payment of N25,000 fine for late registration courses and against hike in tuition.

However, the management of the institution has debunked the allegations, tagged them as untrue.
According to the statement published via its Information Unit, the authorities have soft-pedalled and re-opened the Registration Portal, making it available for students to access.
The statement further read that
a) ‘Add’ and ‘Delete’ continues to be free on the University Portal;
b) there is no increment in the charges for late registration;
c) University Examination has been shifted by one week (Examination now starts on June 30, 2014);
d) all students are enjoined to remain calm and go about their normal activities.
UNILAG administration further wished all the students success in their forthcoming First Semester Examination.
It would be added that unfair position of LASU attracted attention of hundreds of NAIJ.com fans, who shared their opinions on the issue.
“The hike in LASU school fees by d current state govt is inhuman and wicked. Are they saying that education is only for d rich?” a Naij.com reader, Jessica Samuel, wrote.
“Why is dat the goverment are suffering us. We are suppose to enjoy free education, infact goverment school shld be more better than private sch.,” a Naij.com fan, Bamidele Toyosi, added.
“Why would i wanna go to university anymore ,with all stress from jamb ,postume ,and pay like 100,000 something, is not like their is a well paying job out there.Such a waste,” a Naij.com follower, Jacinta Victoria, complained.
