The Sokoto State Government said on Saturday that it had approved N331.63 million for the sponsorship of 164 medical and engineering students to Sudan.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Information Officer of the State Scholarship Board, Malam Isa Shuni, in Sokoto.

It listed Khartoum College of Medical Sciences, Afhad University for Women, Nahda International College, International University of Africa and National University as the institutions where the students would be admitted.

It said that the gesture was to offer training to selected students from the state in selective fields of medical sciences.

According to the statement, the gesture covers the cost of tuition, registration, transportation and other needs of the students.

The statement quoted the Chairman of the board, Alhaji Jelani Kalgo, as saying that Gov. Aliyu Wamakko had since approved the release of the funds.

It said that the release of the funds would facilitate easy take-off of the programmes in accordance with the provisions and guidelines of the respective institutions’ academic calendars.

“Kalgo was also quoted as saying that the state government has also given emphasis to the sponsorship of female students.

”This will tackle the shortage of female medical personnel bedevilling the state’s medical institutions.

“The benefiting students should complement the government’s gesture by dedicating themselves to their studies and by being good ambassadors of the state and Nigeria,” the statement said. [NAN]

  1. LIE!
These people have just fed you with lies.
    Lete lay truth bare:
    1. N331 million cannot transport 164 students to Khartoun, Sudan, talk less of sponsoring them in “medicine and engineering”. Laelae! So, the money must be $331 million or at least N331 billion naira, money from my father’s oil well forcefully taken.
    2. No Nigerian student from the north goes to Sudan to study medicine or engineering. Lie! The mildest course they study is Islamic study, sharia law and Arabic e.t.c
    3. Born to rule Sokoto state will never put It’s money in the importation of Western education from no other place than Sudan. No! They need to replenish the dwindling power of their army, the BH
These are the legacies of the Sardauna who established the Nigerian embassy in Sudan
shortly after having his way with the British who conceded to all his demands to make the minority north have majority seats in the then paliament as a pre condition for independence

  2. It saddened my heart that the northerners cannot learn from past experience. It goes a long way to show that they are the ones sponsoring this terrorists. Of all places, why Sudan? Ofcourse they are sending them to be trained by Al-Shabab Terrorist institutions. At the end they will say it is GEJ. I pity the innocent Northerners who now lives at the mercy of their rulers who are the sponsorers of this terrorists.
