Police Deny Rumors Human Heads Are Needed For Burial Of Rivers Monarch

policeThe Rivers State Police Command has denied rumours making the rounds that human heads were needed by the people of Woji Community in Obio/Akpor local government area of the state for burial rites of the late traditional ruler, Eze Dr Frank Adiele Eke.

The burial ceremony of the late monarch, who was also a former deputy governor of the state, and paramount ruler of Evo Kingdom, commenced yesterday, and will be rounded off on Sunday, June 8, 2014.

A statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday and signed by the assistant police public relations officer, Grace Iringe-Koko said, “The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to rumours making the rounds that human heads are needed for the on-going burial ceremony of HRM, King Dr Frank Adele Eke, Eze Gbakagbaka of Woji town which will be rounded off on Sunday, June 8, 2014. It has become very necessary to respond to this rumour in view of the security concerns it has raised in the state, especially in Obio/Akpor LGA”.

The statement added that the police is doing all it can to forestall any plans by hoodlums in the community to foment trouble and assured that it will remain “alert to its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property of inhabitants of Rivers State and will respond swiftly to address any security challenge that might arise at any time”.
