President Goodluck Jonathan has described the security challenges facing the nation as one of the darkest phases in its history.
The president said this while speaking to journalists on Friday a visit to Emab Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja, scene of Wednesday’s bomb blast that claimed 22 lives and injured scores of others.
Jonathan had cut short his trip to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea where he was to attend the 23rd Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Summit of Heads of State and Government, on hearing the news.
At the scene of the bomb blast, Jonathan who was accompanied by Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu and top government functionaries, was briefed by AIG Suleiman Abba.
The president also visited Maitama District Hospital where he was briefed by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Adetoun Adetimehin.
Lamenting the attack, Jonathan said while some are bent on destroying the country, others are striving hard to build it.
Taking advantage of the president’s visit, a victim, who sustained injuries and was being treated at the hospital appealed to Jonathan to give him a good job, saying he was into recharge card sales.
