polio_immunization_in_all_sThe Kogi Government said it had achieved 85 per cent cumulative immunisation coverage of children against polio and other killer diseases.

The state Immunisation Officer, Mr Shaibu Amedu, said this in a statement.

The statement was issued in Lokoja on Sunday by the Press Secretary to the state Deputy Governor, Mr Mike Abu.

It quoted Amedu as saying this at a meeting of officials of Kogi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, local government chairmen, traditional rulers and some development partners.

Amedu also told the meeting, which was called to review immunisation activities in the first quarter of the year, that the state was also polio-free as at February.

He, however, called for an end to the ongoing strike embarked upon by health workers in the state to sustain the gains and achieve 100 per cent coverage.

The Ejeh of Ankpa, Alhaji Yakub Amodu, in his contribution, promised that traditional rulers would continue to give maximum support to activities of the agency.

Earlier in his opening address, the Deputy Governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, said that government would continue to ensure adequate funding of immunisation and polio eradication activities.

He said that the health of the people remained a top priority of the state government. (NAN)
