Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan Set for a Third World Cup

Captain Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari preparing for their third finals and Jonathan Mensah, Michael Essien, Kwadwo Asamoah, Andre Ayew and Kevin-Prince Boateng are the only experienced names included in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.

Coach Kwesi Appiah named 16 players competing in their first World Cup in Brazil on releasing his squad list for the nation’s 3rd appearance on the biggest football stage.

Eskisehirspor defender Jerry Akaminko, Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp and David Accam, who plays for Helsingborg are among the players excluded from the country’s squad- slimmed from 26 to 23.

Ghana kicks off their 2014 campaign against the United States on June 16, before meetings with Germany and Portugal.

The ‘Black Stars’ will be in Miami for the final stages of their build up to Brazil, with one more friendly to come against fellow finalists South Korea on 9 June.
