Emir’s Palace Under Tight Security As Well Wishers Visit Sanusi At Govt. House

Protests continue in Kano over the emergence of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as Emir. The palace has therefore been placed under surveillance as security men cordoned off the area, to forestall breakdown of law and order.

Meanwhile, the new Emir of Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, received visitors who paid him homage at the Government House.

The new emir was presented with instruments of Kano Emirship by the Madaki of Kano and chairman of the four-man kingmakers’ council, Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani Cigari Ibrahim.

The instruments comprise the Holy Qu’ran, the “twin spear” (Tagwayen Masu), the sword, Emir Dabo’s hat and the ostrich plumage shoe.

The new emir is yet to be turbanned officially apparently because of protests in the commercial city as the official turbanning ceremony have to take place at the emir’s palace, a place that is still being cordoned off by the military. A source told Nigerian Tribune that the ceremony would take place at a date to be announced.

Adamawa State governor, Alhaji Murtala Nyako; his Imo State counterpart, Rochas Okorocha; business magnate, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; the Makama, Alhaji Abdullahi Sarki Ibrahim; Professor Isa Hashim; Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu and the Deputy Secretary of the Emirate Council, Alhaji Sarki Waziri are among dignitaries who have paid the monarch a visit.
