A massive raid on villages in Borno and Adamawa states, which are under emergency rule has been averted by the Nigerian military, killing over 50 insurgents in the process.
Spokesman of the Defence Headquarters, Major General Chris Olukolade, in a statement made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Monday said: “troops conducting anti-terrorists campaign in North-Eastern Nigeria have successfully averted attempted massive raid on villages in Borno and Adamawa States during the weekend.
“The terrorists who were on their way to attack selected communities were ambushed by troops along Bilta, Borno state on receiving intelligence report of the terrorists’ intention,” Olukolade said.
According to him, the attack was launched on the terrorists as they filed out of the forest to embark on their mission at about 10pm on Saturday.
Northeastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe have been experiencing varying degrees of insurgent attacks despite a state of emergency put in place following incessant attacks.
Islmaist sect group Boko Haram, blamed for most of the attacks is asking for a Sharia state and abolition of Western education, which it calls sin.
How can Western education = sin when those folks use weapons (and even wear clothes) made from the West? Are these folks plain stupid or there is more to this than meets the eye?
