Kenya Sets 4×1500m World Records, Team Nigeria Claim 4×400m Bronze in Nassau

Kenya set new world record times in the men and women’s events of the 4×1500m at the IAAF World relays in Nassau, Bahamas.

The men’s time of 14 minutes 22.22 seconds beat the previous mark of 14:36.23, set by Germany in 1977, while the women beat the previous mark by over half a minute.

Team Nigeria women picked up their first medal in the 4×400m in a Season’s Best time of 3 minutes 23.41 secs, as the USA and Jamaica claimed Gold and Silver.

The women’s 4×200m team- led by Blessing Okagbare, including Regina George, Endurance Abinuwa and Gloria Asumnu- despite clocking a new National Record time of 1:33.71secs; finished a disappointing seventh in Sunday’s finale.

Abogunloko Bukola, Abuga Folasade, Patience Okon George, Omolara Omotoso helped Nigeria pick up her only medal in the inaugural championships.

Team Nigeria 4×100m men failed to make it past the heats, in a race which Yohan Blake led Jamaica to victory.
