Jonathan Never Planned To Visit Chibok Today, Stop The Rumors, Says Presidency

goodluck-jonathanThe Presidency has denied reports that President Goodluck Jonathan was scheduled to visit Chibok, Borno State on Friday.

The media was agog with news that President Jonathan was going to visit Chibok, where 276 secondary school girls were abducted by terrorists over a month ago to get a first-hand assessment of the situation.

However, citing reports by Reuters, the international news agency, which first announced the president’s scheduled visit to Chibok, Information Nigeria had reported that the visit was cancelled as a result of ‘security fears’.

However, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati on Friday, debunked the purported visit and eventual cancellation of what he termed a “non-existent trip” as widely reported yesterday.

He described the reports as rumours, wrong and malicious, saying “every trip by the President is usually pre-announced”.

In a series of tweets via his official Twitter handle, @abati1990, the presidential spokesman said: “The Presidency did not at any time announce a trip to Chibok today (Friday). Ignore rumours”.

He explained that “the statement issued by my office on Thursday only indicated that the President was scheduled to travel to Paris yesterday.

“It is therefore wrong and malicious to allege that a non-existent trip has been cancelled”, he stated
