Gerard Pique Inks New Barca Deal

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has signed a new four-year contract extension at the Catalan giants.

The former Manchester United defender was due to be out of contract in June 2015, but will now remain at the Camp Nou until 2019.

“Barcelona has to be at the top, win titles and feel important in the European and world elite,” said Pique.

“We have got the team and the coach and we have got all the ingredient to do it again.”
Barca Celebrates
The 27-year-old returned to Barcelona, where he started out at its La Masia academy, in 2008. He has since then played 266 matches, winning four La Liga titles and two Champions League winner’s medal.

The Spaniard, who played all seven matches in the South Africa World Cup four years ago, is preparing for his second World Cup appearance with ‘La Rojia Furia’ in Brazil.

He also played every minutes of Spain’s Euro 2012 win, in partnership with Real Madrid’s Sergio Aguero.

Barcelona announced he will extend his stay days after confirming Lionel Messi had signed a new deal and former midfield player Luis Ernique Martinez had returned as the Baulgranas boss.

His partnership with Carles Puyol was instrumental to the Spanish national side and at club level, however; the veteran defender’s exit means he becomes Barcelona’s main central defender.
