Suarez Claims PFA Player of the Year Prize

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez was named Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Players’ Player of the Year at an award dinner in London last night.

Suarez, 27, is the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 30 goals, from 30 games- having missed the opening six matches of the outgoing season as part of a ten-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic.

“The Premier League is full of really great players and so it is a great honour when these players recognise your work on the pitch,” said Suarez.

“I always try my best for the team and it is nice to get awards but really this is for my team-mates and the staff at Liverpool because without their help I wouldn’t have this prize.”

The Uruguayan’s strike partner Daniel Sturridge and skipper Steven Gerarrd joined him in the Premier League Team of the Year.

Eden Hazard, 23, claimed the Young Player of the Year gong. The Belgian, alongside two of his Chelsea teammates- goalkeeper Petr Cech and defender Garry Cahill- were also named in the 11-man Premier League first-11.
