Nigeria Will Overcome Retrogressive, Divisive Forces, Says Jonathan In Easter Message

president-goodluck-ebele-jonathan-official_portraitPresident Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday promised that despite the “evil machinations” of terrorists, criminals and their collaborators, his administration will remain focused on successfully implementing the transformation agenda.

This is even as he said he would continue to count on the support and prayers of Nigerians in his government’s bid to achieve peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in the country.

This was contained in the president’s Easter message to Nigerians made available to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

President Jonathan said although his administration had already attained notable progress in achieving sustained development, he would not rest on his oars.

He said, “My belief in our ability to overcome all retrogressive and divisive forces in our midst and build a strong, united and prosperous nation by turning our unique diversity into a source of strength remains unshaken and we will continue to work with all interest groups and stakeholders in the country to achieve the peaceful, secure and politically stable conditions essential for rapid socio-economic development.

“In spite of the evil machinations of terrorists, criminals and their collaborators, our administration remains ardently focused on efforts to successfully execute the Federal Government’s Agenda for National Transformation and achieve sustained development.

“We have already made notable advances in this regard. As a result of our efforts and those of previous administrations, the Nigeria economy is now the largest in Africa and the 26th largest in the world.

“But we cannot afford to rest on our oars. Much remains to be done and we will continue to count on the patriotic support of all Nigerians as we strive to achieve more inclusive economic growth, generate more national wealth and create more employment opportunities to meet the demands of our increasingly youthful population”.

Commending the leadership and delegates to the ongoing National Conference, the vast majority of whom he said have shown a patriotic and praiseworthy commitment to national unity, peace and progress built on justice, fairness and equity for all component parts of the country, the president expressed hope that the outcome would foster national unity and fulfill our collective desire for a greater nation.

Jonathan again commiserated with families, who have lost loved ones in recent terrorist attacks, saying his thoughts and sympathies remained with all of them

“We pray for their speedy recovery and shall keep on doing everything possible to assist them with required medical services and material support”, he said, adding that the nation’s Armed Forces and security agencies will continue to do their very best to curb such attacks and restore full security to all parts of our beloved country.

“But we must all become more alert and vigilant, and do all that we can to give them the fullest possible assistance, support and cooperation they require to achieve more effective protection of lives and property across the country.

“We shall continue to count on your support and prayers for greater peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in Nigeria.

“May God Almighty bless our dear nation and guide us, always”, the president concluded.

In his letter, Senator Abbo explained that his decision to defect to the APC is because of the mismanagement of the PDP in Adamawa state by Governor Umaru Fintiri.

Senator Abbo who is a first-term lawmaker was elected in 2019 to the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

2023 Presidency: Bode George Cautions Buhari About Tinubu

Bode George, Tinubu

Chief Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against supporting Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 Presidency.

Bode George made this remark in a statement titled, “The jamboree visit to the Villa: My Birthday Offering.”

The former National Port Authority boss warned Buhari against falling to the antics of those who would ignore the issues of Lagos State to engage in a needless scheming in partisan engagement.

Bode-George also condemned the recent visit of some APC chieftains, Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Dr Yomi Finnih, and Chief Segun Osoba to the State House, Abuja.

The PDP chieftain said: “The visit of Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Dr Yomi Finnih, and Chief Segun Osoba to the seat of power in Abuja is needless, unnecessary, veiled in some poorly hidden agenda that is woven in apparently self-serving ulterior personalised desperation.

“It is easy to discern that the visit is stripped of any patriotic progression, lacking in balanced national leadership, voided of a spirit of sacrifice and developmental vision. The very absence of Bola Tinubu from the jamboree screams to high heavens that the meeting itself is a covert placatory softening of the ground for Tinubu himself. I am pretty certain that in his very absence, Tinubu occupies the centrality of the discussion.

“I will advise Baba Akande who governed Osun State with principled, incorruptible leadership to kindly help us drop off Bola Tinubu at Iragbiji as he makes his way back to Ila-Orangun, rather than engaging in fruitless pleading sessions for a man who is fixated on a warped pipe-dream about governing Nigeria. He should pay restitution for the egregious stripping of the Lagosian coffers.”
