Louis van Gaal: Front-Runner for Man United Job

Dutch national team coach Louis van Gaal is the bookmakers favourite for the vacant Manchester United job.

United confirmed on Tuesday that player-coach, Ryan Giggs, will take charge of the Premier League job on the interim, pending the appointment of a permanent manager.

Van Gaal has reportedly told his friends he is “very keen” on succeeding David Moyes when his stint in charge of the ‘Oranje’ runs out after the 2014 World Cup and the his involvement at this summer’s World Cup is believed wouldn’t hinder United from considering him for the job.

The former Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Ajax coach has made no secret of his desire to coach a Premier League team after the World Cup.

A report on Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, says the 62-year-old Netherlands coach had a meeting with United 10 days ago.

Van Gaal’s outstanding resumee, which includes wining league titles in holland, Spain and Germany, and his immediate availability, has impressed the Glazer family, owners of the Old Trafford outfit.

The Dutch boss has already held talks with Tottenham but his link with the White Hart Lane outfit is not expected to deter him from joining United if he gets an offer.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Borrusia Dortmund coaches, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, have moved to rubbish rumours linking them with the vacant managerial position.

The Daily Telegraph reports the ‘Red Devils’ are set to make discreet moves to find out whether Pep Guardiola can be tempted away from Bayern.

“I want to stay at Bayern on the long term. Bayern are my team, and I believe we can do even better,” Guardiola said ahead of the club’s Champions League last-4 tie with Real on Tuesday.

Klopp, 46, was quoted as saying in the Guardian: “Man United is a great cluband I feel very familiar with their wonderful fans. But my commitment to Borussia Dortmund and the people is not breakable.”

Carlo Ancelotti, Diego Simeone and Jose Mourinho are among the others who have been linked with the United job.
