Peter Ebimobowei’s brace was sufficient for Bayelsa United to clinch their first away win of the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season as reigning champions Kano Pillars beat 10-man FC Taraba.
The 2009 Nigeria Professional League champions came top against last season debutantes, Nembe City in the Bayelsa derby.
A second-half brace of headers from striker Ebimobowei stunned the home fans at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium, Omoku, on Sunday.
The ‘Restoration Boys’ are now second on the league standings, having notched up 11 points from six games.
They will be up against Ivory Coast outfit, Sewe Sports, in Abidjan next weekend in a Caf Confederation Cup playoff match.
At the Kano Pillars Stadium, ten-man FC Taraba lost 3-1 to the champions, following the sending off of Richard Ocheyi in the 29th minute.
Striker Ezekiel Mba opened scoring for Pillars on 16 minutes, forward Gambo Mohamed doubled the hosts lead in the 55th minute, after his effort early on was disallowed.
Esom Tochukwu reduced Taraba’s deficit but Eneji Otekpa grabbed the ‘Sai Masu Gida’s third in the dying minutes of the encounter.
The win helped Pillars move up third with 9 points from a possible 18, same point as their opponents, who have played a game less.
