Easter: CAN Asks Christians To Pray For Peace In Nigeria

can_logoNigerian Christians have been called upon to use the Easter period to intensify prayers for the restoration of peace and security in the country.

The call was made on Thursday in Bauchi by Shuaibu Byel, North-East zonal Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Byel, a reverend, said there was need for Nigerians to intensify prayers in support of governments’ efforts to rid the country of its current security challenges.

“As we celebrate this year’s Easter, there is the need for Christians and the general public to intensify prayers for peace to return in the country to save our nation from total collapse.

“We equally need to extend love to our neighbours and embrace one another irrespective of our religious and ethnic divide, just as Jesus Christ showed us when he died on the cross for our sins”, he said.

The clergy man said Easter was a day Christians the world over celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He said Easter celebration is about the life and times of Jesus Christ who came into the world to fulfill the divine mandate of His father that brought peace into the world.

“The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, has brought hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, freedom to the captives and comfort to those who mourn.

“His resurrection has given us hope for life eternal”, Mr. Byel stated as he condemned the Nyanya bomb blast that led to the death of many innocent Nigerians.

According to him, the wrath of God will befall anyone who took the lives of innocent people in the name of religion or whatever form of grievances.

“I just pray that the perpetrators of such heinous act would be apprehended and brought to justice’’, he said.
