AFN Names 20 Athletes for the 2014 Mt. Sac Relays

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has listed 20 athletes for the 2014 Mt. Sac Relays coming up this weekend at the historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut Califiornia.

World championships medalist, Blessing Okagbare, is expected to lead the Nigerian contingents to the high profile meet.

The Delta-state born multi-talented athlete will compete at the invitational alongside Gloria Asumnu, Obinna Metu, winner of the 100m in the Abuja leg of the 2014 Golden League, Regina George, Amaechi Morton, whose anchored team Nigeria’s 4×400 relay quartet to setting a new African record at the Sopot 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships, Nicholas Imhoapermhe, Chukwudike Harry and Noah Akwu.

Abiola Onakoya, Isah Salihu, Orukpe Erayoka, Khadijah Suleiman, Benjamin Ada, Josephine Ehigie, Stephanie Kalu, Omolara Omotosho, Peace Uko, Bukola Abogunloko, Ossai Rita and Folashade Abugan completes the list.

The coaching crew includes: AFN High Performance Centre director Eric Campbell, Daniel Etsebiminor, Victor Omagbemi, Maurice Green and Gabriel Okon.

An AFN statement says its Secretary General, Olumide Bamiduro, is the team secretary while President, Evangelist Solomon Ogba, leads the Nigerian track and field athletes to one of the premier events in world’s athletics.

The athletics federation will use the meet, hosted by Mount San Antonio College, as a build up event for the IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas next month and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, in July.
