AFN Golden League: Aderemi Kazeem Sets National Walk Record

Aderemi Kazeem of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) headlined the first leg of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Golden League meeting held at the Abuja National Stadium on Saturday.

Kazeem broke the national men’s 20km walk race record, finishing in a time of 1:34:05secs. Herve Taptue of Cross River State and Oluwaseyi lawal of the Police finished second and third with a time of 1:35″03 and 1:38:04 respectively.

Albeit the athletes subjection to a dope test determines the ratification of the new time, according to AFN Technical Director and overseer of the capital city leg of the Golden League.

“I hope you are aware that a record has already been broken in the 20km Race Walk Men which is subjected to ratification,” said Nesiama.

“The particular athlete has been tested for doping which formerly we are not doing we take our time but now we said no, the anti-doping control will be at all our Meets.”

In the women’s 10km race, Police’s Queensly Asedo finished first with a time of 55:05secs ahead of teammate Queen Henshaw, who finished with a time of 1:25:06secs, and Roesmary Kure of the Mountaineer Club came third with a time of 1:27:01secs.

Cross River State george Patience Okon won the women’s 400m race in a time of 53.07secs, while Tobi Ogunmola won the men’s 400m event in 46.66secs.

Obinna Metu won the men’s 100m event in a time of 10.36secs ahead of Ogho-Oghene Egwero, who finished in 10.40secs while Peace Alphonsus Uko of the NSCDC claimed the women’s 100m in a time of 11.45secs.
