Keshi Will Not Forget Eagles’ Europe-Based Fringe Players

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi says he will keep faith with Nigeria’s top stars who have struggled for game time at their clubs ahead of the World Cup.

John Mikel Obi has played second fiddle since the return of Nemanja Matic at Chelsea, Elderson Echiejile is yet to seal a first-team shirt for himself at Monaco and Victor Moses has played few roles in Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Liverpool.

But Keshi insists he will stick with the national team star and is expected to name them in his 35-man provisional squad for Brazil 2014.

“It’s unfortunate Mikel, Elderson and Moses are not playing regularly for their clubs. But they are not kids who I need to teach how to play football,” said Keshi.

“I would have loved them to be playing regularly for their clubs, but I can’t control that. I watched Mikel against Arsenal when he came in, he was sharp and played well.

“It’s difficult but they play good for the team when they are here which is more important for our team. We need them in the team and we all know their ability.”
