Iranian international striker Alireza Jahanbakhsh has highlighted his country’s hopes for a rare passage in the preliminary stage of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
The NEC midfielder is optimistic coach Carlos Queroz side can advance into the knock-out stage of the football showpiece, and is already dreaming of beating his side’s opening game opponent, Nigeria.
Nigeria play Iran on June 16 at the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba.
Speaking to the the Tasnim News Agency in Tehran, Jahanbakhsh said: “I am dreaming of beating Nigeria in the World Cup. I think we can defeat team 2-1 or 1-0 in the tournament,” NEC midfielder added.
“I think we can qualify for the last eight. It will be possible if we work hard,”
Iran will play Argentina, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the wake of their opening match against the African champions.
