Benue State Government and prominent indigenes of the state have strongly condemned the spate of deadly attacks on the state by Fulani mercenaries, which has claimed over 1000 lives in recent time.
According to a statement released by Special Adviser to Benue state Governor on media and public affair Dr Cletus Akwaya, the state government sued for patience, cooperation and understanding of all the good people of the State so that security personnel will carry out their operations to remedy the situation.
He said the state and other federal and state agencies are working round the clock to restore peace and normalcy as soon as possible.
At least 50 people were killed as fresh hostilities between Fulani herdsmen and Tiv youths erupted at Gbajimba, Guma Local Government Area headquarters in Benue State on Sunday.
7 people were also killed on Wednesday as the clashes continue, police said, after an earlier attack days before claimed 13 lives.
“We recovered seven bodies following the attack on Agena village yesterday (Tuesday),” Benue state spokesman Daniel Ezeala told AFP by telephone.
“It was the usual attack by Fulani herdsmen on Tiv farming communities in the state,” he said, adding that the police had quelled the violence.
