South African club Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Most Valuable Player (MVP), Chrisantus Ejike Uzoenyi, from Enugu Rangers.
The 21-year-old will join his new teammates in June and will remain with the Premier Soccer League outfit until 2018.
The deal brings to an end several speculations concerning the player’s future, after several PSL clubs and few others from Europe had notified the media of their interest in the forward, who has since returned to Rangers and scored in a pre-season friendly last week.
Sundowns revealed their admiration of Uzoenyi immediately after the CHAN tournament with, even the player having to write Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club Rangers to release him for the switch.
“Joining a club like Sundowns is a great deal for me because their ambitions to conquer Africa are in line with my career objectives as a player,” Uzoenyi told Sundown’s official website.
“The other thing that made me join the club is that Coach Pitso had a chat with me before I joined and we had a discussion about his plans for me and I feel that I’m ready for the challenge”
Ejike scored three goals an played in all Super Eagles matches on their routes to finishing third at the just concluded CHAN tournament.
