Health workers in Kano State have been given a boost, with the just approved seven per cent increase in the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS)of health workers in the state.

The increment is expected to take effect from February 2014.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer in the office of the Head of Service of Kano State, Alhaji Mustapha Fagge, in Kano on Friday.

According to Fagge, the Head of Service, Alhaji Umar Minjibir, announced the increase while signing an agreement between the state government and the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) on Friday in Kano.

He noted that the increase would raise the percentage increase in the salary of such workers from 87 per cent to 94 per cent in the implementation of CONHESS.

Fagge assured the people that the state government would continue to provide more funds for the provision of infrastructure to health institutions within the state’s limited resources.

“Two weeks ago, the state government approved 100 per cent implementation of CONPCASS and CONTEDISS salary structures for academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions in the state.

“This is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to develop the health sector,” he added.

In his remarks, the Chairman of JOHESU, Alhaji Ahmed Gana, gave the assurance that health workers in the state would reciprocate the gesture through rededication to duties.
