King Abdullah II of Jordan was in a chopper which had to make an emergency landing in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz because of bad weather.

According to a Mexican official, King Abdullah II was travelling to an unidentified location when his helicopter made an emergency landing on Thursday on a baseball field in the town of Cuitlahuac.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity on Friday because he isn’t authorised to talk to the press.

Cuitlahuac Mayor Jose Ureta said that upon landing the monarch was quickly surrounded by law enforcement officials in SUVs who then drove him to the nearest airport.

King Abdullah II met with President Enrique Pena Nieto on Thursday and no other official activities were announced.
