Suntai In Abuja To Receive Jonathan’s Support Towards Resuming Duties

suntaiGovernor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State yesterday flew into Abuja, the nation’s capital with a view to having audience with President Goodluck Jonathan and former Minister of Defence, Theophilus Danjuma, in what has been described as a final push towards his return to office.

The recuperating governor, it was learnt, was flown to Abuja in a private jet said to belong to the multi-billionaire former minister, who is also believed to be in support of Suntai’s return to office after recovering from the plane crash that saw him seek medical treatment abroad for ten months.

A source close to the governor, told Saturday Vanguard that he would first be received by Danjuma, who would later take him to the meeting with the president so as to smoothen his resumption of work that has been enmeshed in endless controversy.

Suntai’s deputy, Alhaji Garba Umar, who had been acting in his stead following his prolonged absence, refused to hand-over to the governor, saying a cabal was attempting to hijack power using Suntai’s name. The situation also became tensed when the state House of Assembly refused to accept Suntai’s letter informing them that he was ready to resume duties as governor.

It took the intervention of the Senator Hope Uzodinma-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP committee to work out an acceptable power-sharing formula. But that option seems to have run its course as Suntai has made it clear he wants to assume total control of governance of the Northeast state.

But the governor will have to wait in the nation’s capital until Jonathan returns from an overseas trip at the weekend. It was not clear as at press time when the President would give Suntai audience as he had previously at the height of the political tension in Taraba, indicated that he would not intervene.

Meanwhile, Acting Governor Umar was also said to be in Abuja alongside the Speaker of the House of Assembly, apparently to also meet with senior political strategists of the President with a view to stalling Suntai’s perceived move to resume work.

We are keenly watching the political situation in Taraba State and will update you with any latest developments.

  1. My advise to president Jonathan is that, this is time of democracy and there are ways of resolving each and every issue constitutionally, what u did as emposing Bamang Tukur as PDP chairman against people wish and contarary to PDP constitution is not yet over the problems still escalating, try and overcome that one first, before creating another problem by emposing the world wide medically known uncapable person as a Governor in Taraba state. Nevertheless u are not the member of Taraba state house of assembly, Suntai need not to see u mr. President let him go back to Taraba and clime a podium or drum as he did when he was campaining visibly to Tarabians and address them, as its now law because that was the requirement of the Taraba state house of Assembly whom the constitution gave power to make laws for the state “TO ADDRESS THEM” at that point nobody can denie him taking over his office. Wish u well mr president.
