Tragedy struck in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital when a 75-year old woman, Ibitokun Shewu, died after she was hit with bullets when a gun accidentally discharged.
It happened at about 8:00 pm on Monday, while the aged woman was returning home after she had paid a visit to a friend.
According to the victim’s son, Ibrahim Ashiriabo, the sudden death of their mother was so painful but they have taken it as an act of God.
He narrated that the gun of the vigilante man while riding a motorcycle along Alore Area, Ilorin, with his wife and children, fell on the ground and he told his wife to pick it up for him.
“When the wife was trying to pick the gun, she mistakenly held the trigger and the gun accidentally discharged and hit the deceased in the stomach”, he said.
The woman died as a result of injuries she sustainaned from the gun shot.
Local police confirmed the incident and said that the bullets also hit three persons, who were in their shop, but they were responding to treatment at a private hospital in Ilorin.
The PPRO also said that the suspect is currently in their custody undergoing interrogation and he will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
