The presidency has reacted to the allegation by All Progressives Congress, APC, that the crisis in Rivers State is being sponsored by supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the opposition party was the one fomenting trouble in the oil-rich South-South state to give an impression that the governor, Rotimi Ameachi, was still popular among the people.

Interim National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday said: “As the Presidency-backed impunity in Rivers worsens, we at the APC are left with no choice but to alert all well-meaning Nigerians as well as the international community to call President Jonathan to order, since he has refused to allow peace to reign in the state just because of his personal ambition”.

The party was reacting to suspected militants’ violent disruption of another rally by the Save Rivers Movement in Bori, Khana Local Government on Sunday.

But Special Adviser to the president on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, while absolving Jonathan of being behind the political crisis in Rivers, however, stressed that security personnel were on top of the situation.

Gulak said, “It is the APC that is putting fire in Rivers State, not President Jonathan.

“They want to precipitate crisis in order to confuse Nigerians that Amaechi is in control. People have since left Amaechi. Security personnel are on top of the situation in the state and they know who is responsible for the crisis”, the presidential aide said.

  1. Rivers crisis is fully programmed and motivated by the presidency, all in a bid to get Gov. Amaechi’s out via the declaration of a state of emergency, having fail through other process. God will save Rivers people.
