NNL Kick-Off Date Rescheduled.

The commencement of second tier football- Nigeria National League (NNL)- in the country has been postponed because of the unavailability of cash to pay referees.

The NNL was due to kick-off this weekend nationwide, but chairman of the lower league division Emeka Inyama said the competition has now been rescheduled to take off on February 15 as the Nigeria Football federation has now agreed to assist in footing the referees bill.

“We have everything in place to commence the league as earlier schedule only that the clubs have decided not to pay referees’ indemnities anymore. We forwarded their resolution to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and a meeting was held on Wednesday night to discuss the way forward,” Inyama disclosed.

“Since we do not have money to pay the referees and the NFF did not have it in their plan, we have been advised to shift the date to when the allocation for the referees will be ready. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
