Michael Essien Joins AC Milan Until 2015.

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at AC Milan after completing his medical.

Chelsea announced they’ve agreed a deal with the Rossoneri last Friday ahead of the Ghanian’s move to the San Siro.

The 31-year-old joined Chelsea from Lyon in 2005 for a then club-record £24.4m- the highest paid fee for an African player at that time.

He went on to make 257 appearances for the Blues, scoring 26 goals. He was an unused substitute in the Stamford Bridge club’s triumph over Bayern Munich in the 2012 final.

He won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a league cup in his eight-and-a-half years spell at Chelsea.

He made only ten league starts in 2011/12 season before moving to Real Madrid on loan, following an injury-hit year.

After making 35 appearances for the Los Blancos under Jose Mourinho, he followed the coach back to Chelsea after his loan spell ended.

He has made just nine appearances this season since returning from the Santiago Bernabeu and will now look to help coach Clarence Seedorf boost his struggling side while also increasing his chances of making the Black Stars squad for the 2014 World Cup.

Essien has capped 52 times for Ghana, scoring nine goals.
