How Death of White Cap Chief Shuts Down Lagos Market

There was no usual hustling and bustling at the popular Balogun Market in Lagos Island in the morning of January 4, 2014, Saturday, as a deposed White Cap Chief in the area died earlier this day.

The entire market was closed down in honour of the deceased.


According to P.M.NEWS, Mr. Balogun Okolo (pictured) died in the early hours of Saturday after a terminal illness.

The late former white cap at Iga Idunganran palace died after suffering of severe form of diabetes, which even left him immobile for few weeks.

A bitter disagreement with the Eleko of Eko, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, led to deposal of late Balogun Okolo.

His deposition also led to his name being removed from the traditional chiefs’ list of the local government. This it was gathered, ultimately led to his salary and other emolument being stopped.

Unconfirmed reports claim that this must have negatively affected his health, which finally led to his death.
