Executive Editor Job at BBC Media Action

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people to understand their rights. We produce creative and compelling outputs for radio, TV, and mobiles which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.

In Nigeria, we have a country office of over 80 project and production staff which produce programmes in Hausa, Pidgin, and English, using factual, drama and magazine formats. Our programmes broadcast on the BBC World Service and on over a hundred Nigerian radio stations.

About the role

In this senior management team role, reporting directly to the Country Director, you’ll be responsible for delivering our media outputs in Nigeria. Using your extensive programme production, editorial expertise, and management experience, you will oversee all radio, television, and mobile outputs, ensuring they meet the BBC’s high standards. You will be responsible for guaranteeing systems are in place to support all aspects of production; from project design, inception and post-production, and will ensure timely delivery of programmes to partner stations. In addition, you’ll build the capacity of national staff members within the team and foster collaboration that stretches across departments to deliver the most creative and compelling outputs possible.

About you

We need your experience of managing teams to deliver multiple radio outputs to tight time frames and setting up systems for scheduling and coordinating the allocation of production resources. You will have experience and skills in using radio and/or other media platforms (TV, digital, mobile, etc.) to address developmental issues – governance, health, resilience, as well as the demonstrable creative ability and proven track-record in designing, developing and making media programmes. You will also have considerable production, personnel and budget management experience of over £1 million annually.
