CHAN 2014: Cash Incentives for Eagles to Beat Morocco.

The Super Eagles has been promised a sum of $100, 000 (over 1.6 million Naira) to beat Morocco in the quarter-finals of the ongoing African Nations Championship in South Africa.

The aforementioned sum is just a tip of the monetary benefit the home-based players stand to accrue by advancing in their debut participation in the tournament as CAF has set its own prize money for the winner at $750,000.

The sports minister Bolaji Abdullahi says he hopes the cash reward comes as a “morale booster” for the Nigerian team ahead of their last eight clash with the Atlas Lions of Morocco on Saturday.

“This is a special fund meant to encourage the players to give their all. It is besides their normal allowances and bonus,” Bolalji said in an official statement from the National Sports Commission (NSC).

The Coach Stephen Keshi-led side have surprised their doubter by reaching the knockout round of the competition, after losing their opening day match against Mali 2-1.

They followed that loss with a 4-2 win over Mozambique before knocking out host nation, South Africa, 3-1 in their final Group A game in Cape Town to come second behind Mali with six points.

“I am very impressed with their performance so far. As we all can see, the team has been improving with each match, and it is our desire that they continue to do very well and reach the final.

“The incentive will hopefully further boost the morale of both the players and coaches and help the team triumph over Morocco.”

Fellow debutantes, Morroco, finished as Group winners with five points ahead of Zimbabwe.
