Wonderful Enyeama Praises Teammates, Coaches, on His 11th Consecutive Clean-Sheets.

Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama continued in his imperious form in goal for French Ligue One side Lille by completing 1035 minutes without conceding a goal, eclipsing Salvatore Sirigu’s record in the club’s 1-0 win over Marseille on Tuesday.

Nolan Roux scored the all-important match-winner two minutes into time added and helped Lille move into second place on the log one point shy of league leaders Paris St-Germain, who play Evian on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old Nigeria international now ranks second on the all-time French top-flight list behind Frenchman Gaetan Huard who in the 1992-1993 season didn’t concede a goal for Bordeaux for 1176 minutes. Meaning the Super Eagles goal-tender is now 141 minutes shy of the league record.

“What can I say! I am just enjoying the moment,” Enyeama told Bein Sport.

“It’s not just me, though, it is the whole group. We stay strong like a team. We have the spirit and the strength.”

I don’t know what is possible now. All I can say is that I have a great team round me and a great set of coaches.

Enyeama only needed to protect his net for four minutes on Tuesday night to beat Sirigu’s record.

With former Lille man Florian Thauvin on the assault for Marseille, it took some super-human efforts from the Nigerian to secure his lines.

The visitors, determined to put an end to Enyeama’s run of flawless goalkeeping, came close when Andre-Pierre Gignac shrugged off a defender and only had the goalkeeper to beat but he was equal to the task, producing an unbelievable block and when the rebound fell to Mathieu Valbuena his shot drifted wide.

One double save in the second-half in particular stood out, Dimitri Payet’s fierce strike being batted away by Enyeama went straight to Gignac out wide right in the area, but his curling effort was tipped away by the goalkeeper.

Both sides looked to be on their way to sharing the spoils before Roux rewarded Enyeama’s superb display as he headed into the far corner from Idrissa Gueye’s cross.

The victory helped the Eagles first-choice complete a run of 11 consecutive clean-sheets and 14 overall in the French top flight.
