OUTRAGE: Photojournalist Nearly Lynched by Policemen in Lokoja for Suspected Bribe Picture (PHOTOS)

The officers of the Nigeria Police Force went violent against a photojournalist, Okanyi Enemali, who was alleged to have taken a shot of a policeman taking bribe. The incident took place in front of the Lokoja Specialist Hospital, in the evening of December 13, 2013, Friday.

okanyi_enemali_journalistAbout eight armed policemen were seen beating the helpless man for about 30 minutes, until he almost lost consciousness.

Then the policemen dragged him into their Hilux van which the inscription: B OPS KGS COMMAND 1.

People who witnessed the incident believe that the photo reporter needs proper medical attention, otherwise the consequences of this beating may be fatal.

As he was being bundled into the vehicle, Okanyi kept crying, “I’m a journalist, save me”.

However, the Police Public Relation Officer in the state later told SaharaReporters that the Divisional Police Officer in the area did not report any incident of such to the Police command. He said nothing of such happened in the state.

Nowadays policemen in Nigeria are getting more and more nervous over compromising pictures and videos of bribe-taking among their ranks, as the material may leak online and lead to their sacking, dropping in ranks or other sanctions.

There are still no updates on condition of the remanded journalist.
