Late Retired Supreme Court Justice, Saidu Kawu Buried In Ilorin

The body of late retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Sa’idu Kawu, was buried on Thursday in Ilorin according to Islamic injunctions.

Kawu has passed on at the age of 85 on Wednesday evening in Ilorin.

He was buried at his residence, Ikokoro compound off Niger Road, Ilorin at about 10.45 a.m.

The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Mohammed Basiru, who led the jana’iza (funeral) prayer, prayed Allah to grant him eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, Sen. Bukola Saraki, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Former

President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, and members from the bar and bench, were among thousands of dignitaries who witnessed the burial.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in IIorin, the eldest Son of the deceased, Justice Suleiman Kawu described his father as an incorruptible, firm, thorough and meticulous judge who was God-fearing during his life time.

NAN reports that the late jurist was appointed the Chief Judge of Kwara in 1975 and later became a Supreme Court Judge in 1984.

In his lifetime after retiring from the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1993, the Ilorin-born judge headed the National Constitutional Conference Commission (NCCC) and other high-profile commissions. (NAN)
