HORRIBLE: Mother & Son Kill Woman, Then Burn Her

A woman, Azumi Abubakar and her son, Yakubu Musa, who is now at large have been taken before the Bauchi State High Court for allegedly stabbing one Aisha Yunusa to death and burning her corpse.

The state counsel, Garba Abdullahi filed a two count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against Azumi Abubakar and her son. The offences are contrary to Section 96, 97 and 221 of the Penal Code.

Abdullahi told the court that on January 19, one Sale Gardama of Tani Yola village reported at the Toro Divisional Police Station that one Azumi Abubakar and her son, Yakubu Musa, criminally conspired and killed his daughter Aisha Yunusa. He alleged that the accused burnt part of his daughter’s corpse, before abandoning it on the farm of one Abubakar Alias Mai Harawa.
He said Azumi caused the death of Aisha by stabbing her with knife near her nose. When the case was mentioned, the judge, Justice Aliyu Baba Usman asked the accused if she has a lawyer and she said she did not as she does not have the money to acquire one.

A counsel under the Community Rescue Initiative, a Non Governmental Organisation, Barrister Idris Jibo, who was present in court then offered to represent her and asked that the matter be adjourned to enable him meet with his client.

Justice Usman adjourned the case to December 16, 2013, for proper arraignment and ordered that the accused to be remanded in prison.
