Fight Against Boko Haram Taking Large Chunk Of Nation’s Resources, Says Mark

David-MarkSenate President David Mark yesterday looked back at the country’s fight against insurgency in some states and the amount of money spent by the Federal Government to guarantee security of lives and property in those areas and came to the conclusion that “enough is enough”. He made the declaration during a tour of his Benue South senatorial district at the weekend.

According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, Mr. Mark also restated his resolve and total commitment to humanity and the nation even as he lamented the escalating socio-political and security challenges confronting the country.

The Senate President also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to use this festive season to seek God’s face so as to surmount the prevailing security challenges.
Mr. Mark, who was represented by his wife, Helen, urged the people to preach love and peaceful co-existence, urging prayers for leaders to be guided by God’s wisdom in piloting the affairs of Nigeria.

“My visit is not only to felicitate with you this season, but to also remind you as patriotic Nigerians, the need to seek God’s intervention in our country. We have witnessed series of violence. We have lost many of our loved ones on account of violent attacks.

“It is high time we say enough is enough. Our resources are hugely spent on security in order to maintain law and order across Nigeria. These resources would have been channeled to some other developmental needs. With God’s wisdom and guidance, Nigeria will overcome her challenges and make the nation a better place for all”, he said.

The Senate President also pledged not to deviate from the service to “our fatherland” and enjoined every Nigerian to be part of this crusade adding that, “All we need is to return to God and He will answer us”.

Excited by the large  turn-out that greeted this year’s constituency annual visit, Mr. Mark emphasized that the food items including bags of rice and clothes be distributed across the wards in the senatorial district and advised that they should be shared specifically to the less-privileged, widows and the aged.
Speaking on behalf of chairmen of the nine councils that make up Benue South Senatorial District, the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Dr. Innocent Onuh, commended the Senate President for the love of his people and pledged to make service delivery to the citizens the watchword of their administrations.
