COPA Lagos 2013: Sand Eagles Humble Germany.

Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles got off to a winning start their COPA Lagos Beach soccer title defence with a 7-1 thrashing of Germany on Friday.

The two-time champions started off comfortably as Isiaka Olawale only needed four minutes to record his name in the scorers’ sheet as a result of an error from the German goalkeeper.

Striker Abu Azeez followed suit with three goals, which is the first hat-trick recorded in the 2013 tournament.

The Germans pulled one goal back after the interval but every effort to hit their stride proved futile as Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Okemmiri and Emeka rounded off a fine performance for the Nigerians in front of the delighted crowd gathered at the beach front of the Eko Atlantic City.

Up next for the Sand Eagles will be a duel against Lebanon on Saturday. Lebanon beat Senegal 5-4 in their opening game.
