Brazil World Cup Stadiums: Another Worker Dies at Arena Amazonia.

A worker has been killed after falling from the roof of the Arena Amazonia stadium in Manaus, Brazil.

The worker, a 22-year-old man named as Marcleudo de melo Ferreira by the company building the facility, died in a hospital in Manaus after falling nearly 35 metres (115ft) when a cable broke.

The construction firm said Ferreira was employed by a subcontractor in charge of the stadium construction.

The Stadium, which will hosts England’s opening match against Italy, is behind schedule and work is been carried out day and night in a race to beat FIFA’s end of the year deadline.

It is the latest of several deaths during construction of Brazil’s World Cup venues.

Two workers lost their lives in an accident on November 27 when a crane fell and destroyed parts of Sao Paulo’s Arena Corinthians stadium, venue of the opening match of next summer’s tournament. Several more were hurt in the accident, delaying the stadium’s completion date by months.

Brazil’s preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup have been hit by public protests and cost overruns among others.
